A1. What makes a Hilltop Vacation Property Cottage unique? First, a Hilltop Vacation Property cottage is a real cottage. Each is a traditional, stand-alone structure, not a townhome, condo or part of a larger multi-unit building.

A2. What is shared or Fractional Cottage Ownership? Shared cottage ownership is an alternative that revolves around the concept of purchasing shares in a cottage, while leaving the worries of constant maintenance and upkeep to professional management. Each share purchased is tied to the number of weeks you "own" exclusive and unlimited use of your cottage.

A3. Why is Shared Ownership a great alternative to cottage rental in Ontario? Cottage rental can sometimes be a bit of a risk. Your vacation experience could be entrusted to a stranger with a limited track record and little accountability. A Hilltop Vacation Property cottage is a real cottage, there for you year after year, built and managed by professionals.

A4. What do I own? Along with your fellow cottage owners you own all of the property and buildings in the cottage community through the Cottage Owners Association, the owner of record.

A5. What is meant by Carefree Shared Ownership? All Hilltop Vacation Property, cottages are maintenance-free. Your cottage is completely cleaned and linens changed between the arrival and departure of each cottage owner. Grounds maintenance is conducted all year round. Major repairs are completed during two maintenance weeks.

A6. How often can I use the cottage? Cottage usage is tied to the number of shares you purchase. A one-tenth share equates to five weeks of unlimited usage, one week for each season of the year, with one additional week.

A7. Can I loan my cottage to friends or family? Rent it? Yes. Please notify management of your intentions. We kindly ask that all guests adhere to the cottage's code of conduct.

A8. Can I re-sell my cottage shares? Yes, your shares are completely transferable, to family, to friends and to interested parties, subject to the procedures set out in your ownership agreement.

A9. Can I exchange my weeks with other vacation destinations? Not at the present time, however, that option may be available in the future should demand warrant it.

A10. Who is the builder? Hilltop Vacation Property cottages are existing cottages from the Canonto Lodge operation, or are brand new cottages built by one of several premier builders.

A11. Can I have Guests? The cottage is yours to enjoy with whomever you please. There is an occupancy limit. Please ask management for details.

A12. Are pets allowed? Yes, there are some cottages that are designated pet-free for those that suffer from particular allergies.

A13. Is smoking allowed? In order to respect the preferences of all our owners, all of our cottages are smoke-free, but you may smoke outside of the cottages.

A14. Can I keep a boat on the property? Every cottage owner has access to a boat slip for the time you have at the cottage. You also have a varied collection of canoes, kayaks, fishing and paddle boats at your disposal.

A15. Is parking available? Each cottage has its own private driveway and parking for two or more vehicles.
